Don’t Fall For It
I had asked for one thing. I wanted someone I love to enjoy the beauty of fall with sunshine to highlight the colors of the leaves. The weather predicted rain for the day. But instead, we had soft fluffy clouds and many bright moments.
At the end of the day, as I was commenting on my answered prayer, a friend said, “What makes you think God would change weather of an entire region just for you? That’s not how He works.”
Cynics! They can be devastating to our faith. And they are everywhere. Their very demeanor asks, “Where is your God?” Even more subtle are those who identify by the name of “Christian,” but say things like, “Why would God do that for you?” Or, “That wasn’t God, it was just chance.” Some even self-righteously hint that you aren’t so important that God would bother to do what you asked for. Or they just seem to derive great joy from letting you know all the reasons why what you’re trusting God to do is impossible.
I beg to differ. God loves to delight us. Some of his children live with a mentality of abundance in which they see everything that happens as a gift from a good God.
Yet some live with a mentality of scarcity that keeps them thinking God is preoccupied and wouldn’t go out of his way for them. Be aware of the viewpoint of people who take it upon themselves to keep you “sane and well grounded.” If they are encouraging you not to trust God, don’t fall for it. If God has given you a dream, a hope, a belief that “He can,” do not back down. Do not let anyone destroy your conviction that your God is big enough. Because He actually is bigger than any of their doubts. He is not limited by what our human minds can picture.
Which kind of Christian would you rather be? I choose to believe He is a God of abundance, who delights in delighting His children.
