Sail ON
(Adapted from Rachel D. Lyne’s blog) 1
During a Sunday sermon, my pastor mentioned that sometimes in Christopher Columbus’s ship log, he would simply state, “Sailed On.” The day wasn’t marked by grand encounters. It was a day filled with questions. Would Christopher ever accomplish what he set out to do?
Are there some days, sister, when you can’t see the big picture… you’ve almost lost hope that God is even there… And you’re not sure if you should sail on… or even give up?
Consider this, dear friend: What if Christopher Columbus had given up? What if he decided to simply drift or even turn tail instead of sailing on? It would have been a very different story in the history books. However, we know that he eventually came upon some of the biggest discoveries of all time. He persevered to find the New World despite the fear, doubt, and hardships onboard. Likewise, sister, when life demands more than we think we can handle or when we can’t see what God is doing, we simply need to sail on in trust. When we’re in the headwinds of change… the storms of doubt… the hurricane of fear… we need to trust the Captain and sail on in order to see the beautiful new horizon.
But who is the trusted Captain of your ship, beloved? Is it the voice of the world or the lies of the enemy? Is it you? Is it the Lord? I pray that you choose the God who intimately knows the seasons and weather in your life – past, present, and future – to steer. When we allow Him to take over the wheel, we experience peace that passes all understanding, hope that holds us for a lifetime, and joy in the journey. Keep going. Don’t give up. New lands and horizons are ahead, and it's a glorious promise for the child of God. Sail on, sister.
Scripture for reflection: 1 Cor. 2:9. Matt. 24:13. 2 Cor. 4:16-18. Ps. 27:11-14.
