PredIction for the New Year
I want to make a prediction: 2022 will be a good year. Don’t listen to anyone who tries to tell you otherwise. It will be good.
I can make that promise to you (and to myself) because God’s perspective on “good” is different from ours. We live in a country where we’ve had the luxury of feeling like we can control most of our circumstances. We expect things to be a certain way and are thrown for a loop if they aren’t. Any circumstances out of our control are frightening and threatening.
The early Christians had a different perspective. Their circumstances were hard: rejected by the leaders of their Jewish religion, persecuted by the government, having their possessions confiscated. Yet we see in them a spirit that needs to take hold of us today. When hard times happened, they focused on asking for boldness to proclaim the Word of God. Even Paul pleads in his letters for them to pray for such boldness.
As we start this new year we have a choice. We can focus on lamenting all that’s wrong in our homes, our country, and around the world. Or we can focus on praying for boldness to reach out with God’s grace and truth. He is the only one who knows the best way to heal the brokenness we see. He is the only one who can give us boldness to accomplish His mission. As we unite to pray for boldness to proclaim Christ as we should, we could very well find that, from the perspective of God’s Kingdom, this will be our best year ever!
